Poly-America, L.P., leading plastics manufacturer, is currently hiring a Safety and Environmental Coordinator to join our team.  Poly-America produces several lines of polyethylene products including high quality trash bags, construction films, and geomembrane liners.  Poly-America is also the most technologically advanced and largest recycler and compounder of polyethylene in the world.

 

Dedicated to providing the highest quality polyethylene products, our team of chemical, mechanical, electrical and process engineers is at the forefront of modern plastics technology.  The companys innovative design team is responsible for several technological breakthroughs in blown-film extrusion and bag making.  We also maintain one of the most sophisticated on-site labs in the plastics industry.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Manage safety and environmental training plans to support company objectives. Ensure plans are consistent with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain safety training class curriculum, safety talks, breakroom videos, and other safety/environmental training content.
  • Facilitate and deliver safety training classes (lockout/tagout, permit required confined spaces, arc flash/electrical safety, etc.).
  • Develop and coordinate training schedules to support safety and environmental training plans.
  • Coordinate training provided by third-party providers (CPR, first aid, fire extinguisher, hazmat, etc.)
  • Maintain employee training records and completion lists to ensure compliance to the safety/environmental training plan.
  • Conducts appropriate safety/environmental audits.
  • Maintains an understanding of applicable federal, state and local regulations (OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, etc.) at all plant locations, including a working knowledge of regulatory requirements and required programs such as: lockout tagout, hazard communication, hearing conservation, emergency action/evacuation, fire prevention/protection, ergonomics, machine guarding/labeling, hazardous materials, SDS database, fall protection/prevention, confined spaces, combustible dust, blood borne pathogens, respiratory protection, Homeland Security, SWPPP, SPCC, hazardous waste, wastewater, air emissions, and others.
  • Determines and provides regulatory advice / recommendations to company management relating to training, safety, health and environmental topics.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate to support operations of the Safety/Environmental department

 

Qualifications

 

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish in verbal and written form.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience as a corporate/business trainer or a safety/environmental professional, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in communication, education, business, occupational health & safety, or other relevant field is required.
  • Practical experience in OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and EPA 40 CFR is preferred.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of basic software applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization in all formats, including verbal, written, and presentations
  • Limited travel.
